Impact of Packet Size on Connection Stability
Standard maximum transmission units (MTU) in Ethernet networks equal 1500 bytes. When a security tunnel is applied, size increases, and packets no longer fit into the ISP's channel: forced fragmentation occurs, leading to packet loss, slow page loading, and video stream drops.
How to Configure Optimal Block Size
- Lower the MTU value in network adapter or client settings down to 1280–1360
- Run a ping test with the don't-fragment flag to find your exact threshold
- Test the connection after changing parameters while streaming heavy video
- Revert to default values if your network uses a direct, loss-free optical connection
