The Principle of DPI Detection

Deep Packet Inspection systems scan data streams for specific protocol markers (OpenVPN, WireGuard, IPsec). Even if the transferred content is encrypted, the very fact that a VPN is being used is easily detected by the handshake structure and headers, after which the ISP throttles or blocks the port or protocol.
